Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – About Our Jewellery Workshops & Creative Team Events

What is silver clay and how does it work?

Silver clay (also known as silver metal clay or Art Clay Silver) is a moldable material made from fine silver particles, water, and an organic binder. When fired, the water evaporates, the binder burns off, and you’re left with a piece of 99.9% pure fine silver. Silver clay is easy to work with – similar to regular clay or playdough – making it perfect for creative beginners. In our workshops, we use Art Clay Silver or similar brands such as FYI Clay or Prometheus Clay.

Do I need any previous experience to join a jewellery workshop or team event?

No. Our silver clay workshops are specifically designed for beginners. No prior knowledge or experience is needed. Our certified instructor will guide you step by step and support you throughout the entire process.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

No. We provide everything you need – including all tools, texture mats, molds, rollers, and work surfaces. If you’d like to use a personal pattern or texture, feel free to bring it along.

What should I wear?

Casual, comfortable clothing is perfect. Working with silver clay is cleaner than you might expect. However, since we use materials like water, olive oil, sanding paper and small tools, we recommend not wearing your finest outfit.

What is included in the workshop price?

All workshops include:

  • Step-by-step guidance from a certified instructor
  • Use of all tools, equipment, molds, and books
  • Firing service for your finished piece (except in open atelier sessions)

Materials such as silver clay, cubic zirconia, and findings are generally not included in the workshop price – except for our team events, where materials (e.g. 7 or 10 grams of silver clay) are usually included. In open atelier sessions and open workshops, materials are billed separately.

Which materials can I buy at the atelier?

We offer a wide range of materials, including:

  • Silver clay in various sizes
  • Cubic zirconia and other gemstones
  • Jump rings, eyelets, ear hooks/studs, necklaces
  • Handcrafted jewelry from our own atelier

How much does the material for my jewellery cost?

The material costs depend on the size and type of jewellery piece you create.

As the silver price is currently subject to strong fluctuations, the price of silver clay also changes regularly. It is linked to the international silver market, which means the exact material cost cannot be fixed far in advance.

Below are the prices for Q2, 2026, at Mein Meisterwerk.

You can currently choose between three packaging sizes of silver clay (7, 10, 20 grams).  In addition, you can choose to buy loose silver clay per gram, if you want to use 5 grams or less.

  • 1 gram silver clay – approx. CHF 5
  • 5 grams silver clay – approx. CHF 24
  • 7 grams silver clay – approx. CHF 34
  • 10 grams silver clay – approx. CHF 48
  • 20 grams silver clay – approx. CHF 96

With 5 grams, you can create:

  • a pair of stud earrings or small drop earrings
  • two or three – sometimes even four – small charms or pendants (<1 cm)
  • or one slightly larger pendant (<1.5 cm)

With 7 grams, you can create:

  • a pair of stud earrings or small drop earrings
  • a medium-sized pendant (1.5–2.5 cm)
  • or a narrow ring

For rings, slightly larger pendants or earrings, we usually recommend working with 10 grams of silver clay.

In addition to the silver clay itself, there may be a small extra charge if you would like to embellish your jewellery with a zirconia stone.
When making a pendant or earrings, small findings such as an eyelet, jump ring and/or ear hooks are added separately.
Please expect additional material costs of approximately CHF 1–10, depending on your design.
